Space to make

This week involved a purchase I’ve dreamed of for a long time…. My own little craft desk. Unfortunately it also meant a trip to IKEA. On a Saturday. With the children. I knew this could potentially end in divorce, so I took my brother-in-law as my bit of brawn. Not only did he traipse around IKEA with me, he then came home and built it. My husband did step in at this point too. There was a chorus of obscenities and things being thrown for a whole afternoon, but they did it. I couldn’t be more grateful. The next few days mainly consisted of me finding bits of plastic and screws heading towards my youngest’s mouth before I could concentrate on filling the desk with lovely stuff. Finally I was able to empty boxes of beads, ribbon, paper and equipement into a designated space. It was a very weird sense of satisfaction I felt at being able to actually put them ‘away’.

Then I got to decorate it. Oh I am a child at heart who loves anything sparkly and colourful. I bought a few bits and bobs from some very talented people on etsy and made it a very happy little desk. I looked at it a lot for a few days smiling. I still need to get some storage boxes for the cupboards but I’m waiting for some inspiration. I don’t just want boring boxes- I want a palatte of colour like something from a Pinterest board. It’s a work in progress…

Both the children have been poorly this week (I hate winter), so we’ve been stuck in the house. One afternoon, whilst Penny was drawing on her face and Robin was holding on to my feet moaning, I thought I’d take the perfect opportunity to have a go at designing a logo. Turns out I’m not that great at drawing rounded pineapples and lobster legs but I’m relatively pleased with the first attempt.

Note the pineapple washi tape. My eyes rolled to the back of my head with joy when I clocked eyes on that.

I also set up my new Instagram account for pineapple lobster. There were quite a few #pineapplelobster so I spent quite a while perusing through those. Very interesting.

So there it is. Something I can now start working from. As I sit here in the hair salon sipping my caramel latte and getting my grey locks tended to, I’m dreaming of watercolour brush pens and cutting dies.  I have lots of ideas and can’t wait to get started.
